LAC plans workshops for young artists

LAHORE: The fine arts gallery at Lahore Arts Council is about to come up with a series of workshops and talks especially focusing on ‘capacity building of young artists.’“These workshops and talks are aimed at capacity building of youth so that while putting on solo or group exhibitions they should know the technicalities and mannerism of such a task,” said Alhamra Art Gallery Assistant Director Mina Haroon while talking to Dawn on Tuesday.

Ms Haroon said the idea [of workshops] is to build a narrative among students on visual art. “We are holding first talk of this series on April 26 which will be conducted by veteran art critic Quddus Mirza, who is from National College of Arts. She said the LAC would also hold a workshop on “how to curate an exhibition.” Dates for the workshop would be announced later. The workshop on this particular topic had been well in demand and many visual artists were seeking an opportunity to hold a workshop on how to curate exhibitions. The workshop would be of interest and benefit not only for the seasoned but also for upcoming curators, she added.

Ms Haroon said the Art Talk ‘capacity building of young artists’ would focus on annual exhibition [of young artists] Alhamra held every year to promote talent.Lahore Arts Council Executive Director Athar Ali Khan while sharing his views on this series of talks and workshops said the LAC was a great platform for such visual art activities. Mr Khan said the series would help young artists understand the issues related to their field.

“We shall be interested in inviting visual art students, budding visual artists and faculty from different institutes to be part of this great activity because their participation would turn this series of talks and workshops a meaningful one,” added Mr Khan.
