Alhamra is perfect for nurturing young, amateur artists: Ather Ali Khan

Alhamra Arts Council is home to many musicians, artists, folk singers and dancers from all over the country who delight people through their art.

The general audience knows Alhamra as the cultural hub of Punjab and Alhamra’s team is working hard under the supervision of its executive director Ather Ali Khan to make the platform accessible for all kind of people related to fine arts. Alhamra arranges festivals, drama events and musical nights on a regular basis so that the artists from different parts of the country can get an opportunity to exhibit their talent. Alhamra has established its goodwill on international levels and has also successfully spread the message of peace and love through art forms, performances and several other cultural activities.

Ather Ali Khan said that one of the most enlightening aspects of Alhamra is the provision of a rich cultural environment to “our young and amateur artists and students who had just begun learning arts professionally”.

Alhamra is located in Punjab but it has become a brand of cultural promotion and diversification in Pakistan, he added Some important programmes which were held during the week were:

SINDHI CULTURAL DAY — Sindhi Cultural Day was celebrated at Alhamra Arts Council in Hall #2 with traditional enthusiasm on December 8, 2018. Minister for Information & Culture Fayyazul Hassan Chohan was the chief guest of the event. This cultural day is annually celebrated in Sindh on the first Sunday of December. To celebrate this day, people wear cultural dresses like Sindhi topi and ajrak. It was a very colourful event which was attended by a huge audience.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION — Christmas, which takes place on December 25 every year, is a time when the Christian community celebrates the birth of Prophet Esa (AS). To celebrate this joyful event, the Kingdom of Holy Spirit Church arranged an exciting event at Alhamra on Sunday, in which a great number of people enthusiastically participated in the pre-Christmas celebrations. A special service was held at the start of the programme to celebrate the festival along with different other religious activities.

HUMAN RIGHTS DAY — Human Rights Day was marvelously celebrated at Alhamra also on Sunday. Punjab Minister for Human Rights & Minority Affairs Ijaz Alam Augustine addressed minorities on the occasion and announced an Empowerment Package together with new legislative and implementation of existing laws that would help the marginalised religious communities of the province. He declared that an action plan had been enlisted by the Provincial Task Force on Human Rights to meet the goals of the Punjab Human Rights Policy 2018. According to the plan the district committees for human rights would be established which had been permitted by the cabinet committee. He further said that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government had decided to introduce human rights as a subject to be taught at Punjab University and schools as well.
